How to Enjoy a Lake Weekend

We had the pleasure of traveling to Hayden Lake, Idaho over the weekend.  While the drive was over 300 miles, once we arrived at the lake, we stayed put and learned all about the art of enjoying a lake.

Things You’ll Need:

  • bathing suits
  • towels
  • sunscreen
  • life jackets
  • sunglasses
  • drinks
  • snacks
  • music
  • cards/games
  • water toys
  • boat

Non-Essentials (but fun to have)…

  • jet ski
  • dock
  • lounge chair
  • hammock

1. Cook up some nice, warm, sunny weather.  A little rain and clouds are okay at times; it helps cool things down a bit.  Thunder and lightning are also okay (as long as everyone is safe ashore), especially when they put on a show at night.

2. Grab your swimsuit, towel, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and try one (or more):

  • Lounge & Read (book, magazine, kindle, newspaper…all are great choices)
  • Play cards
  • Have a ball with water toys
  • Take a nap

3. Jump in!

  • Float
  • Challenge your friends to swimming competition
  • Dive
  • Strap on some goggles or a snorkel mask & look for treasures

4. Enjoy delicious food with good company.  Here are some suggestions:

  •  Homemade fried chicken, brats, and wings
  • Fresh Halibut Tacos

5. Take a boat ride.  Optional: At Sunset.

6. Reminisce, catch-up, and laugh (best done around a fire).

    • Thanks, Allison! It can be so hard to “check-out” from screens at times, but this gave us such a good opportunity to enjoy good company, food, & our surroundings.

  1. I’m a little spoiled since we live in a town on the edge of a giant lake, but your list of things to do actually makes me want to leave the house and put in that two minute drive to the shore. I think I’m going to go spend my afternoon floating, diving, and snorkeling for treasures.

  2. We LOVE going to the lake. I have been going to lakes in New Hampshire since before I can remember. Last year I got to introduce my oldest to the lake and he was hooked. Now we can’t wait to get back.
Oh, and I agree- Lake Washington is WAY too cold right now. My oldest keeps trying to jump in. Not gonna happen buddy. Course not as cold as Puget Sounds 😉 Thanks for linking up!

    • I know, there is just something about them, right? All weekend, I kept looking out at the view saying, we have got to come here more often!

Love that he’s still trying to jump in! 🙂 We’re going to have to stick to the wading pools for now…looking forward to another nice warm day for us to do so.

  3. We’re heading to the lake this weekend. I can’t wait. We’re only an hour away, but it’s been ages since we’ve been there. Definitely packing the suits, towels, sunscreen and deck of cards. Great tips!
